Sherwood G. H. Taylor III It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the passing of Sherwood G. H. Taylor III, who departed this life on July 2, 2026, due to natural causes. Sherwood was a man whose presence carried warmth, strength, purpose, laughter, and quiet dignity. To those who knew and loved him, he was more than a son, father, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, family member, coach, mentor, and friend. He was a steady and loyal presence, someone whose love for his family and community was evident in the way he showed up, poured into others, and remained connected to those who mattered most. Sherwood shared a meaningful life and love with his beloved wife, LaTonia Austin Taylor, who predeceased him. Their bond reflected devotion, partnership, and family. Together, they built memories, nurtured relationships, and created a legacy rooted in love, resilience, and connection. Sherwood was a sous chef who enjoyed cooking and sharing his love of food with family and friends. Sherwood was a passionate leader and mentor who founded and coached Big Baller Basketball, where he used the game as more than a sport. Through basketball, he taught discipline, confidence, teamwork, accountability, and perseverance. He believed in developing not only strong athletes, but strong young people. His impact extended far beyond the court, as he encouraged players to believe in themselves, respect the game, support one another, and carry themselves with pride. Those who knew Sherwood will remember he always had a white towel on his head and a toothpick in his mouth; his spirit, infectious humor, and loyalty always made people feel seen and valued. He carried himself with strength, but also with tenderness. He loved his family deeply and took pride in the people closest to him. His life was a reminder that love is shown not only in words, but in presence, protection, consistency, and care. Sherwood leaves behind his beloved son, Quentar Taylor; his sister, LaJeune Pollard; and his brother, Hugh M. Pollard; niece Chameira H. Pollard, guardian/ cousin Clifton Pollard, and goddaughter Zoë Re Ragin, who will forever cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his mother, Fannie L. Pollard Taylor; father, Sherwood G H Taylor Sr.; his beloved wife, LaTonia Austin Taylor; and his daughter, Oliveia Taylor; and godson, Jha’quille Allen. He also leaves behind his uncle John D. Pollard; aunts, Gladys Pollard and Mary Pollard; a host of cousins; the Big Baller Basketball family; and a wide circle of loved ones, players, mentees, extended family, and friends. Though his earthly journey has ended, Sherwood’s love, lessons, mentorship, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will remain a blessing, and his life will continue to be honored through the stories, laughter, strength, and love he leaves behind. Services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at First Congregational Church of Norwalk, located at 3 Lewis Street on the Norwalk Green. Viewing and visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Refreshments will follow the service. Interment will be private. We appreciate your love, thoughts, and prayers during this difficult time.
