Joel "Jojo" Baldwin

Joel Baldwin affectionately known as JoJo or Uncle Jo, was born on August 8, 1947, to the late Willie C. Baldwin and the late Grace Knight Baldwin in Daphne, Alabama. In 1953, he relocated to Stamford, CT with his parents and siblings where he was raised. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Willie T. Anderson and John Lee Baldwin, sisters Shirley Booker and Sheila Baldwin, and his late grandmother Connie Parish. Left to treasure and honor his memory are his remaining siblings: Ann Patterson, Ann Flash (Danny), Willie E. Baldwin, Loretta Baldwin, Stanley Baldwin (Janice), Grace Baldwin, and Lorenzo Baldwin (Melanie). In addition, JoJo leaves a very special niece Keeva Baldwin, whom he helped raise, his only God child Lorren Baldwin, and an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends to forever cherish his memory. In 1975, JoJo met his crown jewel, Carolyn Murray, whom he fondly referred to as Polly. He and Polly shared fifty years of unconditional love and a lifespan of unforgettable memories. Although JoJo did not have any biological children, he was Blessed with honorary children whom he held dear to his heart and loved as his own: Patrice Clyburn (Kenny), Ernest Murray (Lashawn) and the late Wesley Murray. Eight grandchildren who were the light of his life: Terrence Murray (Tieanna), Christopher Murray, Karon Murray, DiAsia Clyburn, Savon Clyburn, Kirsten Murray, Logan Kelly, Lorenzo Kelly. Three great grandchildren that he absolutely adored: London Jones, Braylen Murray and Trysten Murray. JoJo was educated through the Stamford Public School System. Because work was embedded in him at an early age, he received his first job as a paper boy and would then later become employed as a laborer at the Stamford Tent & Event Services Inc in 1967 for 57 years. During his tenure at Stamford Tent JoJo became a foreman, field supervisor and then warehouse loading manager. Due to his job etiquette, his hard work, and his dedication to the work, he was presented with an award for his longevity and craftsmanship. JoJo retired in 2017 after many years of devoted service, but it was short lived and he returned back to Stamford Tent part time upon their request. JoJo would then retire conclusively in 2024. A man known to be laid back and reserved but held in high regard and admiration. JoJo’s commitment and love to his family was irrefutable. He upheld his position in a mighty way, supporting financially, paving the way for college, and aiding in home ownership. The wonderous memories of countless holidays, the unforgettable Thanksgivings under the “JoJo tents”, the competitive spade and bid whist card games, the Christmas envelopes filled with money for every niece and nephew, the financial rewards for academic excellence, the walks to the store and then to the water, the music, love and laughter on the front porch, and his favorite Temptations song “Silent Night” which symbolizes tranquility, peace, and holiness. Although JoJo did not attend church often, he was raised in Church and in a Godfearing home. His belief in God never faltered. Rest in Heavenly paradise Joel Baldwin…Our forever JoJo. You will live on in our hearts and memories forever more. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Scalzi park, 97 Bridge Street, Stamford, CT. 06905. Burial will be private
