Jerry Wayne Atkins

Jerry Wayne Atkins, Jr., affectionately known as “Stuff”, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on November 5, 2022, at the age of 48, after a courageous battle with an aggressive Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. Jerry was born on January 22, 1974, in Stamford, Connecticut to Karen Austin-Williams and the late Jerry W. Atkins, Sr. Jerry attended school in Stamford, Connecticut, a graduate of J.M. Wright Technical School - Class of 1992. Jerry was employed as a truck driver with The Antique and Artisan Gallery at the time his illness began. He was gifted as a handyman and could assemble and fix anything. Known to the poet world as J-Love, his true passion was writing poetry, putting it to music and creating spoken word, which was performed at many venues throughout Connecticut, New York, Maryland and Virginia. His laughter was contagious, and his happiness was infectious. Jerry was optimistic, joyful, fun, and wherever he ventured, he was well known. His presence, especially his smile, would brighten any room and will be missed. Jerry leaves to cherish his memory; his devoted and loving companion, Delores McDow of New Canaan, Connecticut; a son, Jerry W. Atkins, III of Stamford, Connecticut, his beloved mother and step-father, Karen Austin Williams and Willie Williams; a sister and brother-in-law, Dawn Atkins-McDonald and Eric McDonald of Atlanta, Georgia; his paternal-grandmother, Hattie Jones of San Antonio, Texas; three aunts, Kay Atkins Onocilla (Dennis), Alfreda Atkins Dumas (Ray) of San Antonio, Texas and Sheri Atkins of Stamford, Connecticut; a niece, Sofia McDonald and a nephew, Brian McDonald both of Atlanta, Georgia; a godmother, Carolyn McKenzie of Norwalk, Connecticut, a special friend (like no other), Angelo Sanchez of Stamford, Connecticut; a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his father, Jerry is predeceased by his maternal-grandparents, Helen and David Austin, paternal-grandfather, Alfred Atkins, and Uncle David Austin, III. REST IN PEACE A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 5:00PM at Graves Medley Funeral Services, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, CT. Interment will be private.
