Evelyn Elizabeth Morton-Hill

Evelyn Elizabeth Morton-Hill, affectionately known as “Mother Hill,” peacefully transitioned from this life on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Evelyn was born on December 10, 1930, in Farmville, Virginia to the late Ernest and Mattie Morton. She received her education in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, school system. She later moved to Stamford, Connecticut, where she made her home for many years. She worked faithfully as a private-duty aide, dedicating her life to caring for others with compassion and kindness. Mother Hill was a praying woman of grace, strength, and elegance. Her presence brought warmth, peace, and comfort to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a deep passion for lost souls and, through her wisdom and gentle spirit, continually encouraged others to trust in God and live for Him. Mother Hill possessed a special gift that naturally drew people to her because she loved so sincerely. She truly had a heart of gold. Her life was marked by selfless giving, and she was always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need. She faithfully served as a devoted member of Reveal Word Christian Center, where her son, Pastor James H. Hill III, serves as Senior Pastor. Above all, Mother Hill dearly loved her children and treasured her family. Her family was one of her greatest joys, and she poured her love, wisdom, prayers, and strength into each generation. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children: Pastor Cynthia A. Howard (William) of Westchester, New York; Pastor Sharon E. Howard (James Sr.) of Apopka, Florida; Pastor James H. Hill III (Bernadette) of Stamford, Connecticut; Sheila M. Burton (Christopher) of Stamford, Connecticut; Mark A. Hill and Ezra Hill of Stamford, Connecticut; and Dexter E. Hill (Melanie) of Seattle, Washington; and two special daughters; Dianna Williams of Summerville, South Carolina and Maureen Thorne of Branford, Connecticut. She also leaves twenty-six grandchildren, fifty-one great-grandchildren, and twenty-two great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her beloved nephews and nieces, with special acknowledgment of her devoted elder nephew, Junious Morton of Farmville, Virginia, as well as many other relatives, church family members, and friends. Mother Hill was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James H. Hill II and her son, Robert E. Morton; her parents, Ernest and Mattie Morton; her grandsons, Dexter Hill, Jr. and James Howard, Jr., her brothers, Ernest Morton Jr. and Charles Morton; and her sisters, Sarah Fortt, Mary McEntyre, and Mattie Morton. Although Mother Hill is no longer with us, her beautiful spirit, unwavering faith, and enduring legacy of love will forever remain in our hearts. Her life was a testament to God’s goodness, and the seeds she planted through her prayers, kindness, selfless service, and steadfast devotion will continue to bless generations to come. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 06th, 2026 from 10:0 AM - 11:00 AM, follow by a service of celebration at 11:00 AM at Bethel-AME Church in Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Stamford, CT
