Veetlin E. Austin Sunrise: February 9th 1939 – Sunset: December 22nd 2021 Veetlin Elfrida Austin was born on February 9th, 1939 in St. Martin’s, Saint Philip, Barbados. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Walcott and Rita Kirton. Sister of the late Winifred Weekes. Mother of Fabian Kirton, Jude Austin and the late Yvette Austin. Grandmother to Nicole Austin Thigpen and Nicholas Austin. Great Grandmother to Arielle Austin and Donald Thigpen Jr. Mother-in-Law of Catherine Austin, Carol Kirton and Donald Thigpen. Veetlin’s close family friends are James Forde (UK), Von Gay (NY) and Marica Bradshaw (NY), Etheline Brathwaite and Lucille Griffin (Barbados). Family to Thompson Yarde, Aunt to Everton Weekes, Peter Weekes, Harriette Weekes, James Weekes and Isaline Weekes. Growing up in Barbados, Veetlin was known to friends and family as Annya. She loved cooking and baking cakes, her neighbors would stop by regularly for their fill of Rock cakes and Dollar breads. She also learned the skill of making clothes. She loved taking care of her flower garden and vegetable garden. Veetlin loved Christmas, she would decorate the house with lights and have parties for family and friends. She was an avid church goer, every Sunday she would get the kids ready for Sunday school whether they liked it or not. After church, Veetlin would pack lunches for her children and off to the beach they went with family and friends. Veetlin was a hard worker and homemaker, she kept pigs and chickens in the backyard and attended to them until they were ready to be sold to the market. Veetlin got married in Barbados on December 29th, 1973 to Charles Oswald Austin. Charles lived in Stamford Connecticut where Veetlin eventually moved to in 1984. She and her late husband Charles attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Stamford, where she remained a member until her passing. Veetlin was a Certified Nurse’s Aide at Patient’s Care in Greenwich CT. After many years at Patient’s Care, she moved on to work for Personalize Home Care. She was a dedicated care giver. During her busy time working, Veetlin treated herself to a trip to London to visit friends. After retirement, Veetlin relaxed at home and enjoyed watching soap operas and talk shows like Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos. She loved watching the WWE wrestling, that was her favorite, she would scream at the TV and cheered for her favorite wrestlers. Every time she heard her favorite songs including soca and reggae, she would start dancing and singing. She loved Beres Hammond, he was her favorite. Veetlin loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much, she would always put them first. She would always say “I’m going to spoil my grandkids rotten”. Veetlin was a warm, kind and loving person, always friendly to everyone she met. Veetlin was a patient at Cassena Care nursing home where she passed away peacefully on December 22nd 2021. Veetlin “Annya” Austin will be sorely missed by her family and friends. May her soul Rest In Peace and rise in Glory. “And God Shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any pain; for the former things are passed away” Revelation 21:4. Visitation will be held on Monday January 3,2022 from 11:00AM - 12:00PM followed by a service of celebration at 12:00PM at Graves Medley Funeral Services, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, CT. Interment is private.
