Matilda Moore Davis Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Matilda Moore Davis, 88, entered into eternal peace with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2022. She was born on January 1, 1934 in Scranton, North Carolina to the late William Riley and Ruth Moore. She was the second oldest of seven children; four boys and three girls. She was a Saint Augustine’s College graduate and member of the National Alumni Association. She obtained her Master’s Degree from Indiana University in Education and pursued a career in teaching Biology in the Connecticut and New York State school systems. After over 30 years of dedicated service as a teacher she retired. Matilda met the love of her life Paul T. Davis while he was serving in the Army Reserves. They resided in Stamford, CT. and were married for 45 years. She was predeceased by him on March 3, 2002. This union was blessed with two sons, Malcolm and the late Derek W. Davis. She was a member of various social and business organizations; and was very fond of the Chancellor & Chancelloretttes Club in which she held various positions along with her devoted friend the late Juanita P. Bass. Matilda and Paul were both members of Union Baptist Church. Both Matilda and Paul were avid gardeners and enjoyed planting a variety of plants and shared them with friends, relatives and community. Matilda was a philanthropist throughout her life, and provided compassionate “caregiving” and support to all who were blessed to have known her. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son and daughter in law, Malcolm O. and Renee L. Davis, two granddaughters; Courtney Nembhard (Jerel) and Alexis Davis, two great granddaughters; Alanna and Aniyah Nembhard, her sister; Betty Ann Holder (John), her brother; Joshua A. Moore (Fabienne), sister in laws; Barbara B. Davis, Nettie Moore and Rita Moore. She will indeed be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends especially Emma Clay. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Graves Medley Funeral Services, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, CT. A private interment service will be held at Fairfield Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be given in memory of Mrs. Matilda Moore Davis to any charity of your choice.
