Edward Lavander Claybourne passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. He was a lifelong resident of Stamford CT. He was educated in the Stamford Public School System. Edward served in the United States Air Force as a Military Policeman, after service he returned to civilian life and work for Acme Backing Corporation as a machinist for 18 years, he was also employed with JC Penney and lastly with Newbury Commons then retirement. In his early days, he was a member of Wilson Memorial COGIC, where he loved to sing in the choir and with the gospel group, the Imperial Wonders. He loved to dress to the “Nines” his wardrobe was complimented with Stacy Adams footwear, and an entourage of hats, he was die-hard Dallas Cowboys and UCONN Womens’ Basketball fan. Edward was affectionately known by family and close friends as “Poppy” and “The General”, he loved and supported his family faithfully, he was always there to support his children and grandchildren, he attended every softball, basketball and football game that they participated in. You could always hear him in the bleachers cheering and giving the referees and officials a glare or even a yell if he didn’t like the call. He cherished family vacations and celebrations, he was full of life and laughter, he made his presence known, such joy, laughter and entertainment did he bring to us all. He led a very full and active life, and a void that can never be filled. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife of 56 years Mable L Claybourne, five children, Eugene (Gretta) Patricia, Bryan, Kim and Malik. Eight grandchildren, Kenneth, Quia, Bryanna, Lewis, Tavonn, Cory, Ervin and Bryn, and 2 great grandchildren, Arianna and Ivoree. We can no longer see him dance, hear him sing and laugh or tell a joke or two, but we are so very thankful for the season the Lord allowed him to be with us, and forever live in our hearts. We love you Daddy and we will forever miss you as we keep your fond memories in hearts. We pray that you rest peacefully in the Lords loving arms, until we see you again. The family thanks you for your love and support through this difficult season, they ask that you continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 18,2020 from 10:00AM - 11:00AM followed by a service of Celebration at 11:00AM at Wilson Memorial COGIC, 164 Richmond Hill Ave. Stamford, CT. with Superintendent Gilbert S. Ginyard, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
