Wanda June McClain

Mrs. Wanda June McClain, beloved wife of Mr. Edward Lewis McClain, entered eternal rest on November 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 28, 1954, in Stamford, Connecticut, Wanda was the cherished daughter of the late James and Bessie Collins. She was predeceased by her loving brothers Ricardo (Chucky) Collins and Ronald Collins. Wanda leaves to honor and celebrate her life with her devoted siblings Tonya Edmonds (Collins), Marcia Rhodes, Julius Rhodes (Sherell), and Brian Rhodes, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Wanda graduated from Rippowam High School in 1972 and went on to study at Post University College, majoring in Business Management. Guided by a heart for helping others, she became a Certified Nurse Assistant, working compassionately at St. Joseph Manor, the Jewish Home for the Elderly of Fairfield County, and other institutions where her kindness touched countless lives. Later, she dedicated more than 25 years of service to Pitney Bowes, where her hard work and gentle spirit earned her the admiration of all who worked alongside her. In 1979, Wanda moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she resided for the remainder of her life, building a home filled with laughter, faith, and love. Wanda was the heart and light of a large, blended family that she loved deeply. She is survived by her children Veronica Morey, Edward Morey III, Sherry McKnight, Lashawn Freeman Simpson (David), Jackie Linton, Monica Taylor, Elder Edward L. McClain Jr., Evan Terrell McClain, and Keylia Fields Williams (Darrin). She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Karen Fields. Wanda also leaves behind her lifelong friend and sister in spirit, Robin Adams; her godchildren Michael Adams, Corey Adams, Scherell Ferrigon, Stacy Hudson, Elizabeth LaCrete, Anthony LaCrete, and predeceased by godson Jeffery Johnson. Her beloved nieces and nephews Chelsea Collins, Tammie Pinkney, Tymon Johnson, and Jeremiah Tucker; along with 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many cherished cousins and other relatives who will forever hold her memory close. A loving, caring, and compassionate woman, Wanda was a pillar for those she loved, always wanting the best for everyone. She had an enlightened spirit and a gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. Family was everything to her. She was the one who called to check in, who showed up to every celebration, and who filled the room with laughter and light. Wanda’s faith in God was the foundation of her life. A woman of grace and devotion, she found joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. Her favorite color, purple, reflected her spiritual essence, vibrant, strong, and full of love. Those who knew her best will remember her warm smile, her humor, her thoughtfulness, and her ability to make everyone feel like family. Wanda June McClain leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. May her spirit continue to shine brightly through all who were blessed to know her. Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. First visitation will be held on Friday November 14, 2025 from 5:00Pm – 7:00PM at Graves Medley Funeral Service, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, CT., Second visitation will be held on Saturday November 15, 2025 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at MT. Aery Baptist Church, 75 Frank St., Bridgeport, CT. Interment will follow at Mt. Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Ave., Bridgeport, CT.
