Norma Elaine Dawes

Mrs. Norma Dawes was born on May 19, 1941, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, to Addassa McDonald and Donald Malvern. She was lovingly raised in a close-knit family by her mother, her grandmother Rebecca, and members of her community, all of whom helped shape the caring, compassionate, and virtuous woman she became. During her teenage years at Harrison High School, Norma met the love of her life, Henry Dawes. Their love blossomed into a lifelong partnership and was blessed with three sons: Benton Dawes, Dumnot Dawes, and Henry Dawes Jr. The family later relocated to Duncans, Trelawny, where Norma devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother, and active member of both her community and church family. On October 22, 1966, Norma and Henry were united in holy matrimony. Soon afterward, she lovingly welcomed and raised her younger sister, Thelma Richards, as one of her own children, embracing her with the same unwavering love and care she gave to her family. Norma was known for her hardworking spirit, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her loved ones. While living in Jamaica, she successfully operated a neighborhood corner store for many years, serving her community with warmth and generosity. In 2000, she migrated to the United States to reunite with her family. After settling in America, she faithfully served in several roles, including ten dedicated years at Goodwill of Stamford, where she earned the love and respect of both her coworkers and customers. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Norma was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Her trust in God guided every aspect of her life. She was known for her wisdom, kindness, gentle spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need. Above all, she cherished her family and found great joy in helping to raise her grandchildren, instilling in them strong values, unconditional love, and an enduring faith. On June 2, 2026, Norma peacefully transitioned to eternal rest, surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her beloved children: Benton Dawes, Dumnot Dawes, Henry Dawes Jr., and Thelma Richards; her cherished grandchildren: Yashema Dawes, Nordia Dawes, Deno Dawes, Elvis Dawes, and Khadejah Dawes; her treasured great-grandchildren: Antonique Atkinstall, Candiece-Chanel Clarke, Leila Dawes, Phoenix Watkins, Brielle Dawes, Aubrielle Eldridge Dawes, and Jaxson Grant; her special niece, Kaemorine Prendergast; her special nephew, Ronald Morgan; as well as a host of other beloved relatives, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her love and kindness. Norma's life was a beautiful testament to faith, love, strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion to family. Though she is no longer with us in body, her legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. "Her children arise up, and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28 (KJV) Visitation will be held on Friday July 10th, 2026 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, followed by a service of celebration at 5:00 PM at Graves Medley Funeral Services: 31 Stillwater Ave, Stamford, CT. Interment will be private.
