Michael K. Coleman

Michael K. Coleman, cherished by many and deeply mourned, peacefully departed this life on June 10, 2024. Born on April 27, 1956, in Stamford, CT, he was the beloved son of the late Ernestine Coleman and Louis Reynolds, Sr. Michael was educated in the Stamford Public School system, graduating from Rippowam High School in 1974. He then pursued his associate's degree at Virginia Union in Richmond, VA. Michael dedicated himself to a fulfilling career with Metro-North Railroad for over three decades, where his commitment and dedication left an indelible mark. Michael's impact transcended the professional realm. A beacon of community spirit, he poured his heart into initiatives that uplifted those around him. His involvement in leading groups to the historic Million Man March in Washington, DC, in 1995 exemplified his passion for unity and justice. As a founding member of Brothers & Sisters United for Change community service group, Michael tirelessly worked towards creating positive change, his altruistic spirit inspiring all who crossed his path. Known affectionately as "Brother Mike" or "Uncle Mike," he was a steadfast presence, offering guidance and support to countless young men and women. Whether mentoring youth or beautifying local spaces like Spruce Street and Carwin Park, Michael's selflessness shone brightly, leaving a lasting impression on his community. Michael's memory will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted daughter, Latonya Michaele Phillips; his "Cupcake" granddaughter, Janay Coplon, and her husband, Sean Allen; his sister Delores Reynolds; his brother Louis "JR" Reynolds, Jr.; his aunt Robin Coleman-Cannon; his faithful companion Teaetta DeSuzia; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In honoring Michael's legacy, may we carry forward his spirit of compassion, service, and unwavering belief in others’ potential. Though he may have departed from this world, his influence will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come. Visitation will be held Monday, June 17, 2024 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Bethel AME Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Stamford, CT.
