John Lee Baldwin

John Lee Baldwin affectionately known as Papa, was born on January 27, 1944, to the late Willie C. Baldwin and Grace Knight Baldwin in Daphne, Alabama. In 1953, he relocated to Stamford, CT with his parents and siblings where he was raised. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother, Willie T. Anderson; sisters, Shirley Booker and Sheila Baldwin, and his late grandmother Connie Parish, whom he held dear to his heart. Left to treasure his memories are his remaining siblings: Ann Patterson, Ann Flash (Danny), Joel Baldwin, Willie E. Baldwin, Loretta Baldwin, Stanley Baldwin (Janice), Grace Baldwin, and Lorenzo Baldwin (Melanie). In addition, John leaves a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends whom he considered family to cherish his memory. On his journey John Lee Baldwin met and married Sandra Marie Williams in 1962. They shared many valued memories together and were often referred to as Ricky and Lucy. John has six children who were the light of his life as he stood proud to be their creator: Patricia Lee Jenkins (Renaldo), Sonya Felicia Williams, the late Wendy Marie “Lady” Baldwin, Joy Lynn Gantt (Reginald), LaTasha Kevia Adams, Darren Lamar Baldwin and one bonus son, Jason Williams. Six grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Derrick Cobbs, Renaldo Jenkins II, Devenay Cobbs, Rena Jenkins, Troy Adams, Aiden Baldwin, and bonus grandson Chordale Booker. One precious great granddaughter, Lyana Tyler (Lee Lee). He was educated and graduated from J.M. Wright Technical High School in Stamford, CT. Upon graduating, he became a factory laborer at Flexible Barrett for many years, before becoming employed at Pitney Bowes for forty-five years until retirement. Due to the spirit of work embedded within him at an early age, retirement did not last long. John worked part time for several years at Lexus of Greenwich as a pick-up/drop-off service driver and then for the City of Stamford as a crossing guard. Never a man of many words, but a man of great dignity, respect, and pride. John was first and foremost a man of God, diligently raising his children to be a better version of himself. He was committed to family unity and oneness expressing the importance of having a relationship with God. He was a long-time member of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board Ministry and Drama Ministry. John was a member of Saint John’s Lodge #14 since 1971. He served as Past Grand Worthy Patron Order of Eastern Star, Worshipful Master, and numerous other titles. He enjoyed spending time with his Masonic Brothers, traveling with them and the Eastern Stars, and always looked forward to their annual Mason Dance. John was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved cheering on the UCONN men and women basketball teams. He enjoyed family gatherings and loved the card games of spades and bid whist. John Lee Baldwin was an influential person in the lives of many, especially young men. He has put in his time and the fruits of his labor has paid off. He will forever be honored, forever saluted, forever celebrated, forever loved and forever remembered. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 10:00AM - 12:00PM followed by a service of celebration at 12:00PM at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church 29, Grove Street, Stamford, CT.
