George E. Ragsdale, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and pillar of the Stamford community, departed this life on August 26, 2024, at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Stamford, CT on September 19, 1937. He was the son of the late George and Anna Ragsdale. George graduated from Stamford High School and worked at Royal Sales in Stamford for 30 years, followed by many years at Brinks Company in Darien, where he eventually retired. George was a man of unwavering love, faith, and unshakable strength, whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him. George was the devoted husband for over 60 years to Mary Griffin Ragsdale, whom he cherished deeply. Throughout her illness, he was her steadfast caregiver, tending to her every need with a love that knew no bounds. Their bond was a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment, and his care for her was nothing short of heroic. As the rock of our family, George was always there when we needed him most. His unwavering support, wisdom, and kindness provided a foundation upon which our family could always rely. He looked out for us, guided us, and gave us the strength to face life's challenges, knowing that we had him by our side. George was a faithful and active member of Wilson Memorial Church of God in Christ. His love for his church and his pastor was evident in every aspect of his life. His commitment to his faith was an inspiration to all who knew him, and he found great joy in being part of his church family. His presence at Wilson Memorial was a source of comfort and encouragement to many. In the senior complex where he resided, George was known as a kind and considerate man who looked out for his fellow residents. His gentle spirit, caring nature, and thoughtfulness made him a beloved figure within the community, and his kindness touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. George E. Ragsdale will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church, and community, but he will never be forgotten. His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he impacted throughout his life. The Stamford community has lost a true gentleman, but his memory will forever be a beacon of light and love. George was predeceased by his father George H. Ragsdale, his mother Anna Mae Marble Ragsdale, three brothers; Eugene Ragsdale, Henry Leon Ragsdale, and Alfred (Buddy) Ragsdale. George is survived by his wife of over 60 years Mary Griffin Ragsdale of Stamford, CT, daughter, Jacqueline Gilchrist and her husband Victor Lee Gilchrist of Norwalk, CT, two brothers: Wilburt Ragsdale (Ida) of North Carolina, Melvin Ragsdale of North Carolina, one sister: Regina Cox of Georgia, two grandsons: Brandon Lee Gilchrist of Ohio, Drake El’mon Gilchrist of Colorado, one great-grandson: Ethan Lee Gilchrist of Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rest in peace, George. Your love, faith, and strength have left an indelible mark on our lives, and you will be missed more than words can express. Your spirit will continue to guide us, and your legacy will be cherished always. Visitation will be held on Friday September 6th, 2024 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Wilson Memorial Church of God in Christ, 164 Richmond Hill Ave., Stamford, CT., Bishop Charles H. Brewer III, Senior Pastor. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, 66 Woodland Place, Stamford, CT.
