Dorothy G. Johnson

Sister Dorothy (Dotti) Grace Johnson departed this life on Friday, December 20, 2024 in Norwalk, CT. Dorothy was born on April 28, 1940, the third of eleven children, born to the late Emmitte O’Neal Grace and Pauline Andrews Grace in Oak Hill, Alabama. Dotti attended Pine Apple High School and graduated in 1956. After graduation, she attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. During her college years, Dotti attended the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Church and participated in the Montgomery boycott. After college, Dotti relocated to Norwalk, CT., where she met and married the late John Johnson and from that union one son, Michael C. Johnson was born. She became a dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She served as a member of the Missionary Ministry and Pastor’s Aid Ministry. She was a general Fieldworker for the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention for many years until her death. Dotti retired from Nordens after over thirty years where she was a supervisor of the Harnessing department. After retirement, Dottie became an entrepreneur. Dotti was a devoted and dedicated daughter, a dependable and sharing sister, a loving a wise and foreseeing mother, a patient and joyful grandmother, a proud and caring great-grandmother and an understanding and compassionate friend. In addition to her parents, Dotti was predeceased in death by her sisters, Gail Denise Grace-Deas, Lessie Grace Cockfield, Barbara Grace Dailey. and her ex-husband John Johnson. Dotti enjoyed her family. She leaves to mourn her passing a loving and dedicated son, Michael C. Johnson of Norwalk, CT., grandsons, Michael C. Johnson, Jr. and Tyler Vaughn of Bridgeport, CT. Two Granddaughters, Christina Johnson of Lake Waccamaw, NC and La Naysha Blackshear of Hardeeville, SC, and two Great-Granddaughters, Tiffany and Chanel Thompson of Lake Waccamaw, NC, and a devoted godson, Lovell Barge of Pensacola, FL. A loving family of six sisters: Helen Garrison and Laura Shular of Norwalk, CT; Annette Keys of South Holland, IL.; Mary Grace-Dennis and Gloria Grace of Blythewood, SC.; Beverlyn Grace-Odeleye, PhD of Phillipsburg. New Jersey; two brothers; Anthony Grace of Pensacola, FL and James A. Grace of Beaufort, SC; four brothers-in-law: the Honorable Judge Arlander Keys (retired), Bradley A. Dennis, MD, Olalekan Odeleye, PHD. and Curtis Cockfield; One adopted sister, Antoinette Venable of Petersburg, VA and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 9:30 am – 10:30 am followed by a service of celebration at 10:30 am a Grace Baptist Church, 17 West Ave., Norwalk, CT., Rev. Dr. Lindsay E. Curtis, officiant. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
