Byron David Haygood

Byron David Haygood passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Born on June 16, 1980 in Springfield, Massachusetts, he was 43 years old. Byron was the first son to Harrison and Jackie Haygood. He was the father of four sons, Tysheen and Tyren McCrea (Waterbury, CT), Bryson Haygood (Stockbridge, GA) and Hendrix Haygood (Madison, WI). In addition to his parents and sons, he leaves to mourn, one sister, Kimberli Haygood and one brother, Michael Haygood; one niece, Kamryn Mayo and one nephew, Ethan Hutchinson. Also mourning are his grandparents, Clarence and Mary Holston, Danbury, CT, two aunts, Clarinda Holston (Janet), New Hampshire and Rosetta Phillips (Michigan); three uncles, John Haygood (Pennsylvania), James Haygood (Stamford, CT), and Thomas Harrod, II (Norwalk, CT). Byron had special bonds with Shamiya Patton of Stockbridge, GA, Tarsya McCrea of Danbury, CT and Emmaline Davis of Madison, WI. Byron had an especially precious and heartfelt bond with a host of cousins in Norwalk and with his cousins in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, North Carolina and Michigan. They would have so much fun when they got together, to the point of being asked to “tone it down with the noise.” Byron grew up in Bethel AME. He participated in the Church’s Young People’s Department (YPD) Program, he was an Usher and he sang with the Young Adult Choir. He also participated in the Young Men’s Group sponsored by Brother George Mintz at that time. Byron was a true sports enthusiast. He loved all sports, especially basketball and football. His sons would follow in his footsteps with their love of the games. It was a joy to see them together, as in typical Byron style, being loud and having fun. Byron had many gifts, among them his exceptional skills with dogs. He was a licensed dog behavior and master trainer and benefitted from the education of the renowned “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Millan. Byron never met a stranger. He made his presence felt wherever he went. He was a person you would always remember. He was guilty of having “blessing overload.” He was exceptionally bright, a skilled athlete, talented, articulate, personable, and blessed with good looks! ` Byron was recently connected with his birth families in Georgia and North Carolina. His extended birth family introduced him to a sister, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was able to spend time with them prior to his death. He will surely be missed, but he left us all with a lifetime of memories! “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 10, 2024 from 10:00AM – 11.00 follow by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Bethel AME Church, 150 Fairfield, Ave., Stamford, CT. officiating Rev Dr. Robert A. Jackson, Jr. Interment is private.
