Bertha J. Bostick

Bertha J. Bostick transitioned into eternal rest, surrounded by her family, on Sunday October 8, 2023 in Greensboro, NC. She was born on April 18, 1947 in Wilson, NC to the late Robert and Bertha Moody. Her early childhood was spent in Farmville, NC. She relocated with her family to Stamford, CT in 1960 and attended and graduated from Stamford High School in 1965. Bertha’s Christian walk began at an early age at St. Stephens AME Zion Church in Farmville, NC, and continued on at Bethel AME Church, Stamford, CT, Union Baptist Church, Stamford, CT and Mount Zion Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC. Bertha was a people's person and never met a stranger. Her daily talk with young people always included them getting a good education and striving for the best in life. To the young people she was affectionately named “Aunt B”. or Ms. “B.” She would feed them, scold them when it was needed and most of all showed them much love. Bertha held a number of administrative and supervisory positions at Olin Corporation, Xerox Corporation, Hilti Corporation, The Advocate, Doran Manufacturing and Plaza Realty. She was employed at the City of Stamford for many years, working in the Finance department, where she retired and later moved to Greensboro, NC. She loved and believed in serving the LORD. Her biggest strength was the blessing to give before receiving. She walked by faith believing that GOD would provide her every need. Those left to cherish her memories include 4 sons: Eugene Maurice Valentine (Matildah) Mt. Vernon, NY, Charles Derek Valentine, Greensboro, NC, Joe Bostick II (Jaminah) Florence, SC, Ricky Goodrich, Stamford, CT and one daughter Janine Virgin (Billy) Springfield MA. She also leaves to mourn her passing: seven grandsons, 4 granddaughters, 2 great grandsons, 2 great granddaughters; siblings: Addie Moody, Greensboro, NC, Donna Hooks (Tommie) Norwalk, CT, Donnie Moody (Dawn), West Haven, CT; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Loved ones who predeceased her: husband; Joe L. Bostick I, mother; Bertha Moody, father; Robert Moody, brother; Charles Moody, son; Reginald Valentine, grandson; Dwayne Alexander II and granddaughter Destiny Bostick. She was a one-of-a-kind mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and neighbor. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews were the joy of her life. She will also be fondly missed by special friends, Lucy Jones of Fuquay, NC and Annette Isley of Greensboro, NC. Visitation will be held on Friday October 20, 2023 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Bethel AME Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at St John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT.
