Mrs Annie L. Jones

Proverbs31:25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. Annie L. Jones known affectionately as “Sweet” took her final breath Thursday morning September 22, 2022; and transitioned peacefully into her glorious new reality. She was born in Rocky Mount, NC in 1935. The eldest of 4 children of Johnnie Matthew Battle and Annie Lee Williams (Battle). Early on the family moved north to Poughkeepsie, NY for greater opportunities. However, hard work and long hours to provide created a wedge that saw the Battle parents divorce and found Johnnie moving to Newark, NJ. Annie, a daddy’s, girl chose to accompany her beloved father to NJ where she acquired a high school diploma from Newark’s South Side High School and was even inducted into the National Honor Society. Shortly thereafter she met and married Fleming Jones, Jr and together they had three sons and a daughter. During their twenty-two year marriage Annie worked closely with her husband to cultivate a successful accounting business from the home. The skills she gained served her well into her career as an Executive Assistant to several Finance VPs at Verizon (formerly GTE) and to the President of CTE, a non profit organization focused on the enrichment of lives in local urban areas. Throughout the ups and downs of life Annie remained poised, upbeat, and elegant. She was recognized for her glamorous style even back in Newark, when she was selected by an up and coming milliner to model hats. She exuded grace and was always the quintessential lady. Her stately manner and effortless sophistication came naturally. Annie was as comfortable in a suit and heels at a meeting full of executives as she was at a picnic. Parkinson’s disease took away her ability to strut in heels. However, her aura of class, stoic strength, and beauty never waned. Annie leaves behind to cherish her memory her only daughter Annemarie Jones Freeman, (Victor), sister in law Barbara Battle, granddaughters Sharonda Robinson and Rhonda Washington, six great grandsons, and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. She is preceded in death by siblings James Battle, Louise Henry, and William Battle; and sons Fleming Jones lll, Roscelle Jones, and Johnell Jones. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 28, 2022 from 10:00AM - 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Graves Medley Funeral Services 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, CT. Presiding Bishop Alan B Graves. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Stamford, CT.
