Alicia Mercedes Brown

Alicia Mercedes Brown (Johnson) aged 83 transitioned into eternal peace on July 5, 2023, at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by her daughters. Her kindness, sense of humor, conversations will be sorely missed by family and friends. Alicia was born on November 17, 1939, in Colon, Panama and immigrated to the United States in 1974 at the age of 35 with the main goal of bringing her children to the U.S. for a better life and opportunities. She worked tirelessly and made many sacrifices to make that dream a reality. Alicia was predeceased by her parents Esther Johnson and Milton Griffith, her husband Neville, and her brothers George (a.k.a Val) and Kenneth. As well as her son Jorge and grandson Carlos Jr. She is survived by two daughters Graciela of Greenwich, Vanesa of Norwalk, three sons Carlos of Panama, Antonio (Beverly) of New Jersey, and Juan of Stamford. Eight grandchildren, Rashida, Jammahl, Stephanie, Alicia, Ashley, Juan Jr., Ieesha, and Amandah; two great-grandchildren, Carlos III and Jamir and nephews Jorge, and Omar of New York. Alicia is also survived by her honorary sister Gene Bell of Greenwich and honorary daughter Connie Rawlings of Greenwich and many friends. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E in Greenwich, CT for many years and served as a trustee and a steward. She was an active member and attended frequently until she became ill. Alicia worked at Greenwich Hospital for 27 years as a unit secretary until her retirement in 2007. She was highly respected and loved by all. She loved people and they loved her back, she never met anyone that didn’t become a friend. She was a social butterfly, who loved to have family and friends around, and loved to gather for any, and all occasions. She was a one-of-a-kind mother, grandmother, and friend. Most important in Alicia’s life was her family. Her children were the center of her life. She was not only a mother, but a friend and will always be beloved by her children. Visitation will be held on Thursday July,13, 2023 from 10:00AM - 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Bethel AME Church 42 Lake Avenue, Greenwich, CT. Interment will follow at Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich, CT.
